US Open Tennis 2017
Flushing Meadows, NY
5-10 Sep 2017
Once known as the U.S. National Championships, the
U.S. Open originated as a single men’s tournament
held solely for entertainment purposes back in 1881.
Not long after, women’s singles, men’s and women’s
doubles and mixed doubles also became a part of the
growing annual tradition. It is held annually in August
and September over a two-week period. Since 1987,
the U.S. Open has been chronologically the fourth and
final tennis Major; the other three majors are the
Australian Open, the French Open and Wimbledon.
These Majors are the most important tennis events of the year in terms of world tour ranking points,
tradition, prize-money awarded, strength and size of player field, and public attention. Last year,
Serena Williams set a new Grand Slam record, passing Roger Federer in the all-time list of matches
won at the tennis majors; there is no doubt that the tournament will be just as exciting if not more in
EVENT LOCATION- ARTHUR ASHE STADIUM
The stadium was constructed & opened in 1997. It honors former tennis legend Arthur Ashe, Jr; he is remembered for defeating many competitors at the 1968 U.S. Open and taking home the men’s singles title. By 1975, Ashe was ranked the number one tennis player in the United States and received great recognition for his philanthropic stance on global matters.
The Arthur Ashe Stadium was constructed to keep the U.S. Open in New York. It is now the headquarters of the National Tennis Center and it is located at the northern end of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. The four course luncheon will take place on-site at Aces Restaurant located in the club level of Arthur Ashe Stadium. In 2016, a retractable roof was installed in the stadium which eliminates any concerns for weather delays throughout the entire tournament.
